Kid Friendly Restaurants
Eating out with young children is a controversial issue. For many, kids are like over-sized pepper grinders and coriander – they have no place in a decent restaurant. But it is possible to make the under-aged dining experience a positive one, provided you follow a few simple guidelines.

Venue. Look for ‘kid-friendly’ restaurants. Generally any establishment ending in the word “Hut”, “Parlour” or “Palace” will welcome young ones.

Set clear rules. We used to tell our children three things: stay in your seat. Use your indoor voice. Do not order red wine with seafood.

Come prepared. Pack comics, Game Boys and capsicum spray. And don’t forget the crayons! They’re invaluable for drawing or as an emergency snack if entrée is slow coming out.

Toilets. No more than three trips to the bathroom (without a doctor’s certificate)

Seating. Many establishments will go out of their way to seat families with children in an appropriate part of the restaurant, usually the car park. Some have even introduced special ‘crying rooms’ where tearful toddlers can join over-worked kitchen hands for a full throated sobbing session.
